The drivers behind Labour’s 29-point poll collapse

There appear to be a swathe of lefties taking to social media in the past couple of days to champion the incredible achievements of the Labour government in its first 60 days in office. Despite the popularity of Starmer and his government taking a nose-dive since their election win pointing to significant failings in leadership already being evidenced, the left are determined to press forward with their disingenuous claim that “the grown ups are back in charge”.

However, with Starmer’s approval rating dropping from +19 at the time of his election to -10 at the end of August, it appears that the majority of the public do not look favourably on his time in office to date.

So, let’s take a look at some of the key “achievements” that this newly elected Labour government can put on their CV:

  • Removed all deterrents to illegal channel crossings, allowing thousands of small boat arrivals since taking power

  • Guilty of cronyism after fast-tracking Labour donors into senior Civil Service positions

  • Labour MP Jas Athwal found to be slum landlord

  • Robbed pensioners of Winter fuel allowance

  • Lied to the British people over public finances and mythical “black hole” they created by awarding inflation-busting public sector pay rises

  • Cabinet Minister Tulip Siddiq breaks ministerial code for failing to declare rental income on private property

  • Made it easier for known terrorists to apply for public housing in the UK

  • Private jet hypocrisy as David Lammy takes £10,000 private flights around Europe, and PM Starmer takes private jet to watch Euros final

  • Committed £11.6bn in overseas climate aid, while British pensioners face freezing to death this Winter

  • Incited rioting with unnecessary “far-right” rhetoric

  • Capitulated feebly to union pay demands for public sector pay increases

  • Releasing violent criminals in order to lock up people for posting memes on social media

  • Began process of re-entry to the EU via the backdoor

  • Established a two-tier society where ethnic minorities and illegal immigrants are afforded favourable treatment over white working-class Brits

  • Damaged foreign relations with Israel and the US

  • Chancellor failing to declare donations received prior to installing a Labour donor in a senior civil service job

  • 29-point drop in Starmer’s approval rating in 60 days, according to the latest opinion polls.

And they’ve managed to cause all of this carnage during the Summer period when parliament has been in recess! Imagine how much damage they will do when they are out of holiday mode and 100% focussed on squandering tax-payers money on their useless vanity projects.

And for those lefties who are trying to portray these past 60 days as a success for Labour, let’s quickly debunk some of their claims of “positive action” that this clueless government has taken:

  • They claim success for “ending public sector strikes”… if success is defined as caving to the demands of their union paymasters, agreeing to unaffordable inflation-busting pay rises without putting up any meaningful negotiation, and being held to ransom by the demands of their largest donors, then I suppose you could view this as a success of sorts(!)

  • Cancelled the Rwanda plan”… yes, well done for ditching the only meaningful deterrent to illegal immigration that we had in place, and replacing it with… absolutely nothing!

  • Set up a national wealth fund”… Does anyone even know what this is? What is it supposed to do? How much does it cost? How will it work? This simply feels like an “announcement” rather than something of substance that can be actually counted as an achievement.

  • Removal of tax breaks for private schools”… Ah yes, taxing education… The foundations of any government planning for the long-term success of a country.

  • Changed planning policy to enable more homes to be built”… in other words, taken away your right to have any say over what gets built in your area, and who these houses go to. But it’s OK.. Labour are confident that most people are happy for their villages to be flooded with undocumented Sudanese/Afghan/Syrian males, so why would we want to have any say in housing plans for our areas?

  • Reset relations with Europe”… or in other words, began the process of re-joining the EU by stealth

  • Dealt decisively with riots”… By labelling anyone with concerns about immigration as “far-right thugs”, implementing a two-tier approach to policing to ensure that white working-class people are subject to the full force of the law if they think or say anything the Government doesn’t like, and dishing out disproportionately long prison sentences to people for tweeting hurty words. Too much to go into here, see our previous piece on this… https://www.hawker-gazette.com/post/welcome-to-two-tier-keir-s-britain

  • Launched GB Energy”… Ed Milliband’s great white elephant. We don’t know how much it is going to cost (although irrefutably the number will be in the billions of £’s) or actually what it will do. It won’t buy energy, it won’t produce energy, and it won’t sell energy. Meanwhile bills are going up and pensioners risk freezing to death this Winter. But as long as Red Ed has a blank cheque to push forward with his vanity project…

  • Free breakfast for kids”… because apparently feeding our children is no longer the responsibility of parents, its ours as taxpayers.

  • Cancelled Sunak’s £40 million helicopter contract”… except Rishi Sunak cancelled this himself back in April, so not sure how Labour can claim the credit for this one?

We are still waiting for any really positive action that addresses the key priorities of the majority of the British public. So far, we have heard nothing of substance on Labour’s plans to reduce net legal migration, or seen any action to stop the illegal small boat crossings.

The economy, which was the fastest growing in the G7 at the time the Tories left office, is likely to start shrinking in response to public sector pay hikes driving inflation back up from the 2% it was in July.

And it is anticipated that investment in the UK will be driven away as a result of Rachel Reeves’ tax hikes due to be announced in October. Thus far, we have seen nothing tangible from Labour on how they will drive economic growth.

I recognise that 60 days is not long enough to fix the many significant problems that this country faces, and it is not reasonable to expect miracles to happen overnight. But if these first 2 months in office are anything to go by, the evidence suggests that this government lacks the competence, leadership or political will necessary tackle the tough issues or provide meaningful answers to the big questions.
