Twitter never fails to be a source of humourous memes and satire directed at our political class. Whilst the dark side of social media can be a joyless cesspit of hate and division, each week we try to extract the funniest politics-related tweets to remind ourselves that, no matter how inept our Government might be, the Great British public can always be relied on to see the funny side of life.

This week's political news has been dominated by two stories: Labour MPs voting in their masses to remove the Winter fuel allowance from British pensioners, and the accusations of hypocrisy following the revelations that the Prime Minister failed to declare thousands of pounds worth of clothes donated to him and his wife by Labour donor Lord Ali.

Not surprising then that these two stories dominate the social media jokes doing the rounds this week:

Some have even gone so far as to compare the impact of the Labour government's decision to withdraw the Winter fuel allowance to the notorious Dr. Harold Shipman...

Some have managed to fuse the Winter fuel allowance story, with the release in the past week of thousands of prisoners, in order to free up space in British prisons...

And finally on this one, another Shipman comparison...

Moving on to the scandal surrounding Lord Ali's donation of designer clothes and apparel to the PM and his wife, this Disney reference was particularly imaginative...

ree

One of Britain's top satirical cartoonists hitting the nail on the head with this one...

ree

And here we have an emotional plea for support for our impoverished PM this Winter...

ree

And finally, a couple of non story-specific memes doing the rounds, which sum up the public's current views about PM Sir Keir Starmer...
